Game set and match to climate change deniers? Not quite. The mistake the AGW science evangelists made was in reducing everything to mathematics. They plotted a trend over a period and assumed linear predictions could be made in a nice, even way. Mathematics likes rules, it is based on the answer to a problem always being the same. 2+2=4 no matter how many times the operation is performed.
Reality does not work like that, weather is unpredictable. Nobody predicted the cold spell that has brought Britain to a standstill. Long time climate campaigners like myself always knew mathematics held no answer. Climate change will not be reversed for decades even if we cut emissions by 50% right now. For the future we must all consume less and waste less. For the present we just have to get ready for a rough ride.
